Brugge, Belgium

Brugge Weber Together- Brugge, Belgium is described as the ‘Venice of the North.’ We haven’t been to Venice (Yet), but Brugge is a town right out of a fairy-tale. The architecture is fantastically Flemish. There are two cathedrals and a huge clock tower in Brugge among the other interesting buildings. We climbed 366 steps up a spiral staircase to the top of the clock tower behind us in the picture. Lucky us, the bigger-than-life bell rang out and almost deafened us by its ‘dong!’. The view of Brugge from the top was magnificent and medieval.

Brugge Square- This Square, like the Brussels Square was simply ‘Wow!’ We had never seen anything like the buildings that we saw in Belgium before. Michelle said that Belgium is definitely the coolest place for architecture that she has seen thus far.

Flemish Buildings- This picture was taken from the top of the Clock Tower in Brugge. The style is quite original and has a cool look to it. It almost looked like a ‘waffle.’ You want to drizzle Belgium chocolate on it and eat it. Speaking of eating, we went to a small French café near these buildings for lunch and bought some tasty panini-style sandwiches.

Brugge Boat Tour- Brugge was overall quiet, relaxing, and romantic; Especially on the boat tour. We were able to reach places that we couldn’t or didn’t know about on foot. The boat passed many traditional Flemish homes, the cathedrals (one of them which has a statue by Michelangelo, which we saw; Madonna with child), went under old bridges, and passed by a park filled with swans.

Romantic and Medieval- The Park filled with swans that we saw in the boat tour was so neat we had to see it on foot. We briskly walked through Brugge and soon reached the park. On the way, we stopped to buy a few Belgium chocolates. We ate them as we looked out at the view and the swans playing in the park. A horse galloped by and Riley whipped his camera out and took this picture. Notice the spire of one of the cathedrals in the background. Brugge was unforgettable. After Brugge, Michelle and I headed back to the ferry where we sailed overnight back to Hull, England.
