Madrid, Spain

After leaving Seville, we took a train to the capital of Spain; Madrid. Madrid was a busy, big, and fast city. Our time was limited to one day to see all of Madrid that we could, so we hopped aboard a Tour Bus that took us past many attractions. To really ‘see’ the attractions, it was better to get off the bus and explore the area. That is what we were doing in the picture. We walked to the Madrid Cathedral, seen in the distance over our right shoulders. Nearby was a big plaza that had statues and gardens.

Garden on Side of Building- We had just arrived in central Madrid when we saw a bunch of people taking a picture at something. We were curious so we took a peak. What this is in the picture is a garden growing completely on the ‘side’ of a building. It seems to defy gravity. It contains a nice variety of plants and flowers. Directly across the street are the ‘Museo de Prado’, and one of the biggest and best ‘art’ museums in the world. We spent two hours zipping through the museum trying to see all of the paintings. Some famous works from Velasquez, Del Greco, La Goya, Rembrandt, and Titan were all on display. Many paintings were on canvas as big as the walls behind them!

Egyptian Temple - No, we didn’t make it to Egypt. However, Egypt made it to us. Actually, this is an authentic Egyptian temple that Egypt moved stone by stone and gave to Spain to express gratitude for all of its archeological assistance in the past. The temple was rebuild just like it was in Egypt. Here Michelle is trying to get the perfect picture of the temple. Little did she know, Riley was just behind her, trying to do the same thing. Two guards near the Egyptian temple prevented anyone from getting too close.

Madrid Icon- This picture was taken from the top of the open-air double decker Madrid tour bus. This arch is actually an icon of Madrid. The weather was raining moments before, but just cleared up enough so we could enjoy the view from the top of the bus. Our behinds got a little wet from the rain still on the seats, but it was worth it to take in the view. On top of the bus, you can actually see the ‘tops’ of the buildings as opposed to downstairs, where you can’t.

Here Riley is posing in front of a ‘fun’ looking building. Madrid was full of ‘fun’ looking architecturally fascinating buildings. We walked past this building and down the street to the Christopher Columbus Plaza. There we looked at the monuments before heading to the nearby Madrid Hard Rock CafĂ© for dinner. It was the first American style restaurant that we had been too in Europe thus far. Michelle and I ate a big plate of “Hard-Rock Nachos.”
