Saint Peter's Basilica Inside

Now that we finally got into the Basilica, we couldn’t stop looking everywhere. Yes, there was no space left untouched with art. It was also dark in here, so the I’m putting up the few good pictures that I got.

Here is an example of the magnificent detail and design that we found.

Here is the under part of something I learned about in art class. Unfortunately, this was the only clear picture I could get of it, so it’s not easy to tell what it really looks like. But at least I got a picture! Before I forget to mention it, Saint Peter’s tomb is under this piece of art. There is a statue of Saint Peter across the way from his tomb where people walk by to touch his feet (the statue’s feet that is).

This is behind the picture above when you look straight through the thing in the picture above. It is something that wasn’t done too often, meaning not many of these were made. It’s supposed to take the light from the outside and use it in the piece of art to show the light of Christ. It uses stained glass and gold to express the light.

Here is something famous too. I believe its name is ‘Madonna and Child’ but I could be wrong. I do know that it is the original piece done by Michelangelo. I was surprised that I got such a great picture (in fact I got a few great pictures of it), because it was so dark.

Finally, this chubby angel was as tall as Riley. He was so cute I had to take a picture.

The art on display, as well as the art in the architecture is beautiful! It seems like now days, there is not as much attention to making buildings beautiful inside and out.
